The Cardhound Community is rolling out a new service, Cardhound Grading Advice, which is free at this time. We now offer expert advice and opinions on the following:
- “Should I grade this card?”
- “What grade would this card receive?”
All members are welcome to chime in with opinions. Cardhound Admin (chvadmin) will both monitor advice for accuracy and offer “official” Cardhound opinions.
The service is free, but an account (also free!) is needed to access the Collector’s Club Board.
Once you have a free membership, you can access the Board and most Forums.
HOW TO USE CARDHOUND GRADING ADVICE FORUM:
1. Post just a few cards per submission.
2. Post high-resolution scans or good pictures of front and back. Attach files or link us to a folder.
3. Verbally describe any defects not clearly visible in photos. In particular, view the card at various angles in good light to look for surface wrinkles or scratches.
This service comes with some necessary disclaimers:
Disclaimers: Cardhound Vintage obviously cannot guarantee any grade or outcome, or that a card has not been altered and therefore is not eligible for a grade at all! All final decisions and outcomes are the responsibility of the card owner / submitter. Grading cards from pictures is less reliable than having a card in hand, and grading is a subjective process. But in general, we understand SGC and PSA grading scales and can help folks make sound decisions about whether grading a certain card is worth the expense.
I have great question, I think I know the answer BUT – I collect Babe Ruth and Willie Mays cards…… I just bought a 1927 Babe E126 which is babe’s most stunning black and white card – Montage. The card looks like it would grade a 4.5 and make it a truly valuablee card (that I couldn’t afford) like 30K. I love the investment but love displaying my card more – this one is a killer. Problem the cards back has dramatic paper loss. Is it worth grading, they might not holder it. It might get the dreaded A – if the stars align a 1, So sad that such a damn nice card would grade so low because of the back and if that the why graded it? Would PSA or SGC be better?
I would definitely grade something like that personally… Even if just for authentication and protection purposes. And I bet it would look great in SGC, but just again that’s also my personal preference and I don’t think there’s a big difference either way. If your cards are insured, everything about that process is easier with graded cards versus raw as well.
