Hi all. This is my first "test post" to this forum! Welcome to the Collector's Club Forum, and if you are reading this, thanks for clicking this far. After years of thankless Facebook group moderation, I decided to launch Cardhound, where I hope to bring together all of the best aspects of many hobby resources I visit separately: networking groups, forums, buy / sell groups, and blogs and articles. Like most here I have been collecting since childhood, and have always loved baseball, history, and the hobby itself. My current PC focus is Cuban cards of Negro Leaguers, but it's hard to find a vintage card I don't like. As a life-long teacher (at the college level), I guess I have always enjoyed facilitating--bringing people together for a positive cause. I'm hoping that's eventually how Cardhound will come to be viewed--as a solid, responsible hobby partner and resource. Click around--and if you are interested in writing for the Articles section, please get in touch!
Looks good. Will be fun to watch the site grow!
@lbd thanks for making the first forum comment by someone not named me!
Impressive how the layout turned out.
Hi!
My name is Stephen B. Excited to be a member of this elite group.
REALLY looking forward to making some new connections.
Thank you, Matt, for launching this site!
P.S. I do not agree with using card savers AND top loaders for everything. In my opinion this practice creates more opportunities for card damage.
Hi, all.
Looking forward to connecting in this group!
Dan
@hardball247 thanks! My web developer deserves kudos for sure--I had the concept but he had the execution. We had lots of trial and error with various plug-ins before landing on this final version. Fingers crossed that it's all stable.
Great work in such a short time! I’ll be snooping around a bunch this weekend.
Looks great. I can’t wait to check it out.
@gbman87603yahoo-com thanks! Let me know if you spot any glitches or errors.
Thanks for starting this page Matt! I have no use for the new shiny stuff so I'm happy to have a place to go that's focused exclusively on vintage.
Matt, this is exciting and a way to more directly connect with like minded collectors. I collected in the late 60s through mid 70s. Started again during junk craze, mostly as a speculator. About a year ago I decided everything needs a new home and have begin selling mostly vintage cards from my PC. For now keeping some of my fav sets, 59 Fleer Ted Williams with #68, 1961 Fleer, 1968 through 1975 Topps. I have mostly raw cards to sell but have stabbed a few. Recently started buying vintage tobacco. Anyway, love the hobby and have made many new friends and have enjoyed being someone who has that one last card to complete a set. Thanks for this forum!
@bltofan1 thanks! It will take a while to get real momentum, but I'm really excited about the potential of the site to bring good folks together.
Hey Matt!
Always love a good forum. I'm an educator (higher-ed), as well, and a long-time card side-hustler and collector. I like pre-WWII most of all, but I'm a sucker for anything old and (just as important) hard to find. My current vintage collecting needs are tied to old Nashville Vols cards (Southern League) and less well-known "rookie" cards. The latter is how I got into a few cuban cards, and I actually bought a partial '45 Caramelo set from you, Matt, on Twitter a couple of years ago. Still need a cheap (lol) Raymond Brown to finish that one off.
I also collect Auburn University-related cards and memorabilia - ticket stubs, old programs, and a selection of cards. I'm also partial to 1990s inserts and refractors.
For my side hustle, I've been running vintage set breaks on www.burlssports.com for almost 10 years, so I'm always looking to buy vintage sets.
Looking forward to the forum!
Burl (Justin Burleson)
@burlssports Oh! I remember the Twitter deal, ha! That's cool. See my article about that set in the Articles area. Thanks so much for joining--hang tight while the forum takes root.
