Ned Hanlon, Hall of Fame player and manager, 1887 N172 Old Judge. Hanlon was a player for 13 years and manager for 25 years from 1876 to 1914. He was often referred to as “Father of Modern Baseball” due to the innovative strategies he first incorporated. He pioneered the “hit and run” tactic that is still in use today. A very low pop Old Judge offered at $950.
Buck Ewing was rated as the best catcher in baseball for the 1st half of the century. He was the first backstop elected to the Hall of Fame. Hit over .300 for 10 seasons and stole over 350 bases, and was also known for his defensive excellence. After playing 18 years in the big leagues he managed another 7 years. $1500 for this extremely low pop 1895 Mayo’s Cut Plug.
