OK look, I know this one is pretty obscure. Even among Cuban and Negro League collectors, not many are actively building the Victoria set. It’s too big and maybe a bit too rare for its own good. But I recently acquired a complete set, and I document things. Some day, somewhere, someone will Google search for “1952-53 Victoria checklist,” and this article will come in handy. Maybe.
1952-53 Victoria Set Details
There are 168 cards in the set, and it is loaded with star Cuban and American Negro Leaguers. Cards are 2-1/8×3-1/8″ and printed on thin paper stock. I love that they are printed in vibrant color, since most of my Cuban cards are black and white. These pop. Teams represented are: Habana, Almendares, Marianao and Cienfuegos. Like most Cuban issues, the cards were designed to be pasted into an album (pictured below–but not mine. I would love to find one for display), and many survivors will show some evidence of album removal.
The HOF Cards
Highlights include HOF Orestes (Minnie) Minoso and Ray Dandridge.
More Star Power
But there is wide appeal beyond the HOF cards, including early cards of Americans Joe Black and Don Zimmer.
The set starts out with umpire, stadium, and announcer cards (1-19). Even the team masseuse gets a card! So be aware that not all cards are of players.

Very cool! I’m always excited to learn about cards and sets that I didn’t even know existed. Interesting to me that they were designed to paste into albums given all the detail contained on the backs of the cards. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, that is pretty wild–the backs of many of these are really complete bios.
Cool set! Love that both Dandridge and Minnie are in the set…and Pop-Eye!!!
