Has SGC ever considered sending an explanation for cards deemed authentic? I sent in a card that was deemed authentic color added and have taken a black light and my eye loupe to it and cannot find any evidence of it being touched up. I just want to know where SGC believes the color was added?!
PSA did start giving grader notes at higher levels of service. I think "color added" IS the explanation--the SGC slabs used to just say "A". Can you attach a pic? I do think grader notes should be standard, especially for A grades. Would take 10 seconds! Let's see if Eric also chimes in.
SGC tends to give as little information as possible in these situations. It’s my theory that there’s a fine line between giving customers information and giving counterfeiters information that helps them make better counterfeits. It can be frustrating I know.
@chvadmin Appreciate your response. I agree, I think notes would be awesome, just to give clarification and peace of mind. It would also help dispell the idea that grading companies seek out resubmissions.
Here's a picture of the card in question.
@bocacardsubs I appreciate the response. Yes, there's a fine line there for sure. Frustrating for guys like me who've owned the card for 40+ years and I can't find evidence of it anywhere. It's possible it happened before I obtained it, but I know the last 40 years it's been in the same top loader.
@lawrencejnc that's strange if you can't pick up on it at all. There's a lot of bright color on that card so I guess you have to look everywhere but usually it will sheen differently under good light or fluoresce differently under black light. Hmmm.
@chvadmin Yes, I've looked it over numerous times and can't find anything. Everyone tells me to crack and resubmit, but I just feel like that's playing into the game to some degree. It's a great looking card, even for a 58 AS. Just wish I knew where the color was added so I could have some closure.
In my opinion it’s even worse to get no note whatsoever. I have a 65 Topps Mantle that looks like a 7 but is marked Authentic with no mention as to why. Can I contact PSA for a reason?
I doubt they will have any info to share sadly. I do like sgc's more recent practice of of putting the reason on the label in most cases. PSA does provide grader's notes but only on higher levels of submission.
