Where / how did VCP get all of the CARD PICS for the site? It seems like a monumental task unless there is some kind of automated way to do this.

Also, the V is for Vintage but I notice modern cards in your hot / not data. Will there ever be a re-brand away from such a tight focus on vintage?

Thanks!

All of our card pics come from past sales on VCP and pretty simple for us to add to VCP with tools we created. When live auctions come in and we sort and add to the queue it will tell us if we are missing a image on the profile page. So with a few clicks we can add that image.

We originally launched with baseball only 1999 and older. And as time went we added the other sports and then cover all years and sets. Right now we have about 3.5 million cards in VCP... About a year ago we acquired the domain name theVCP and have been slowly getting it out there with no vintage in the name to rebrand and attract the more modern collectors

@bobbyvcp Ah! Yes, I wondered about the new "VCP" but with the phrase "Graded Card Price Guide" without any mention of vintage. I wish you still had the $500k collection! Thanks for sharing that story.

I'm sure there's some proprietary stuff you can't share, but "in general" how does VCP "work" now? Are all of those data agreements individual--I assume yes? And is part of the idea that these relationships are mutual--i.e. traffic is sent back and forth both ways (both from you to ebay and from ebay back to you etc.)?

I suggest you look into adding the Cuban Card auction site to your roster (Ryan Christoff is a member here). It would help us Negro League collectors if those sales were added into the mix.

Thanks for jumping in "early" to chat! There should be more questions popping up over the weekend (I JUST sent out the email blast this morning).

1. We do not scrap data like a lot of other sites. We get an API feed to get what we need, our selling point is we input the listing while they are live. From here once it gets in our queue it checks all of the members Want Lists and sends out notices with links. So we are driving traffic and buyers to these places in return for letting us get all the data to post on VCP.

2. I have seen Ryan post on Net 54 and would gladly add him if he would like.

@bobbyvcp so I'll admit I had no idea VCP was this proactive . . . typically, I buy a 1-day when I need to sort of binge on data (especially if I'm buying or selling a bunch of Cuban cards or something that's not super easy to comp). I like the idea of using it as a way to FIND cards / get alerts for things I'm looking for.

Ryan is in this Forum / group or you can email him at ryan@cubanbaseballcards.com
