Why do we collect? It’s a question we hear and ask ourselves again and again. For me, collecting vintage sports cards is about connection: to a player, a moment, or a place in time.
The most meaningful part of my collection is my TTM autographs.

If you’re new to the term, TTM stands for “through the mail.” It’s the process of sending a player a letter along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, kindly requesting they sign a card or photo. It’s a simple but powerful way to connect with the athletes we admire. While many of the players collectors cherish are no longer with us, there are still plenty of great TTM signers out there.

That’s where this monthly feature The TTM Roundup comes in. My goal is to keep you informed and engaged with this unique corner of the hobby.

Signer of the Month

Each month, I’ll spotlight one of the community’s favorite signers. This month’s honor goes to Vern Law.

At 96 years old, Mr. Law is a U.S. Army veteran and had an outstanding baseball career. He was a two-time All-Star, a World Series champion, and the 1960 Cy Young Award winner. More
recently, he was inducted into the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame.

Now living in Utah, Vern remains a reliable and generous signer. He recently began charging a $15 fee per autograph—a price many collectors are happy to pay. He’s known for adding
thoughtful inscriptions and even taking the time to respond to letters. Thank you, Mr. Law!

Return of the Month

Each month, I’ll feature a standout TTM success; either one I’ve received or one from the community. Since this is our first edition, I’m highlighting my favorite return from this month.

My current focus is building a signed 1962 Topps Baseball set, and I was thrilled to receive a return from Hall of Famer Billy Williams.

Mr. Williams signed one card for me in just 18 days. I included a $45 donation, and he generously added a “1961 ROY” inscription without being asked. The result is a beautiful card
and a true centerpiece of my set. Thank you, Mr. Williams!

Collector of the Month

Starting next month, I’ll be recognizing one outstanding member of the TTM community as Collector of the Month. The winner will be featured in the next issue and receive a special prize.
