Once we get a few folks dropping into this Forum, I'll add more content to the activities and we can get to work! My name is Matt, and this is my site. I've been collecting cards for 40+ years and am a teacher by trade, so I do enjoy sharing knowledge with--and learning from--other collectors.

hey there, I'm Scott
been collecting on and off since the 70's
I am interested. I have been a vintage collector for the last year and a half.
Hi, I'm Mark. I'm looking forward to learning a lot with this workshop!
@lindrewdad Thanks for joining. For most who collected pre grading, the "new" standards often come as a shock. But maybe that doesn't apply to you. But for instance when I was a kid we were obsessed with corners / dings / wear. No one paid much mind to centering, for example.
Collecting since 1969 and prefer the cards from then as opposed to today's "lottery cards."
@scrondog23 Thanks for joining. If you have been collecting modern in the past, the learning curve to vintage for grading is interesting / challenging. There are so many more potential issues with vintage cards that need to be accounted for.
@zemansky "lottery cards" is a great metaphor--and almost 50% of modern cards grade as gem / 10. There's a lot more nuance to assessing vintage. Thanks for joining!
@chvadmin it was all about getting your favorite players when I started
then it grew into getting my favs and the top players in the sport
it wasn't until the 90's that it turned into more of a " I cant believe how much these are worth" thing
I collecter from 87-92 and recently starts up again.
ive been scan and blowing up card images to look at quality
I began collecting in 1969 through about 1976, then started again in the junk era but mostly chasing premium cards for resale. All my early collecting went in to shoe boxes, teams were rubber banded so often the first and last card for a team set were beat up from that. Easy to replace the 1st series card in most cases (1971) but the high series was a bit more expensive. Started grading a few older cards, mostly to sell and boy do I need education and tools to get a better feel for card quality. In a number of submissions, the card came back lower and the value increase with a grade did not pay for the cost of grading. Help!!
A little late to the party but excited. I recently came back into collecting a few years ago but have moved to vintage about a year ago. I don’t do a ton of modern except for Phillies and other players I like. I’m currently building the 1956 set as my main vintage interest.
