On the ‘64 Topps baseball set, how does the cartoon showing affect the grade, particularly through SGC? I have found old label SGCs that did not seem to be affected at all. On the card on the attached picture, there does not appear to be any damage to the card where the cartoon appears.

Cool example / question. I'll see if we can get Eric to reply here--but what I have heard is that they don't grade "down" on these unless there is damage (sometimes kids rubbed at these pretty hard lol). It looks like a sharp card from the back anyway--let me know how it goes! Can we see the front?

I'm not sure graders will disclose specific criteria like this . . . my guess is that a card maybe could not "gem" like this since it is not fully untouched / pristine, but I doubt they ding the surface score too hard. I would not hesitate to submit a card like this in hopes of a solid grade (especially for $15 or whatever).

@chvadmin It’s a beauty. The cartoon on the back is the only thing that may keep it from a mid to high grade. Was Eric willing to weigh in?

He hasn't responded to the specific question yet, perhaps is waiting on feedback from SGC that may or may not materialize. My experience it has been difficult to get really concrete guidance back on things like this. You almost have to reverse engineer it from looking at higher graded cards and checking out the backs...
